Education and Training

Dr. Leuschner’s training has been varied and extensive. Graduating with a bachelors degree in biology from The Citadel, the military college in Charleston, SC, he went on to receive his medical degree from the University of South Carolina Medical School in Columbia, SC, in 1988. He completed an internship at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE, before being called up for active duty in the United States Army as a General Medical officer.

After several years as a general medical officer, Dr. Ed Leuschner transitioned to an ophthalmology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, to pursue his dream of working with people’s eyes. He completed his residency in 1996 and was stationed at Winn Army Community Hospital at Fort Stewart in Georgia as a staff ophthalmologist.

Working with Sight Eye Clinic

In 1999, after ten years in the Army—including an overseas deployment—Dr. Leuschner moved to Holland, MI, to join Sight Eye Clinic. He and his family were looking for snow and a place to set down civilian roots. West Michigan has truly become his home over the years.

He is currently a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and maintains memberships with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Michigan Medical Society, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. He works hard to continue his education and certifications to stay on top of medical advancements and eye care discoveries. He has performed thousands of eye surgeries in his career, particularly for cataracts.
